The Office Building of ICHOU Internal Medicine Surgery Clinic

ICHOU Internal Medicine & Surgery is a clinic established in April 2015 in Nogata City, Northern Fukuoka. Dr.Niiyama, the director of this clinic, has just started to provide community healthcare.

My aim of this work is to embody Dr.Niiyama’s philosophy of community healthcare: “Security and Smiles - Medical Activities Rooted in the Local Community” and my principles of designing: “The Buildings Integrated into the Surrounding Area and the People within/around It”

This clinic is located in the suburban area affected by such problems as medical concentration into the inner cities, a lack of doctors, unbalanced and limited treatment departments, and established in order to solve these issues in cooperation with a nearby governmental hospital of Japan Community Health care Organization (JCHO), Fukukoka Yutaka Central Hospital. Hence the most significant mission in this work was not only to visualize what the director would like to do for this community but also what the community requires of this clinic. This task fortunately sympathized with my following principles in designing architectural structures, which motivated myself to embody each of those elements into the whole picture as the community with this clinic.

One of the points I place the highest importance on in designing clinics is to understand each director’s personality clearly and to reflect it with employing my own creativeness and ideas. The director’s individualistic attractiveness I get a picture of is applied in designing his/her clinic to let patients know his/her character and build familiarity as well as trust. In this work concerned, therefore, the background that Dr.Niiyama used to belong to a Yacht club during his collage days was applied in designing the big roof expanded to the entrance which associates us with
